MODERN FIBERGLASS HULLS -- Our pontoons are boat ‘hulls’, built using modern fiberglass boatbuilding technique, with Airex coring, and bulkheads spaced 1m apart along the entire length.
WAVE PIERCING HULL DESIGN – Following in the tradition of lobster boat design, our NPs have wave piercing bows for ultra aquadynamics, slipping efficiently through the water. Our NP hulls most resemble a sailing catamaran hull.
HIGH BUOYANCY – Our NPs are extremely high-buoyancy, resulting in a more stable, higher and drier ride on the water. NP hulls are 75% more buoyant than standard 25” tin-log pontoons; and 50% more buoyant than 27” tin-log pontoons.
MAX STABILITY – NPs have flattened hull bottoms and as such the outer chines create a maximum stable base of 8.5’ in width. Tin-log pontoon boat bases are only 6’ wide, dramatically less stable The Nantucket Pontoon is 36% MORE STABLE than a tin-log pontoon boat.
SHALLOW DRAFT – NP hull shape and buoyancy result in super shallow draft. Nantucket Pontoon is amazing for getting into shallow areas for beach visits. And in the event of an overnight adventure (island camping}, will rest comfortably 'on the hard' sand awaiting the next tide to come in.
NO WOOD – Recognizing that wood naturally takes on water (water always finds a way) and deteriorate, wooden pontoon decks may need replacing after just four years! We build our entire NP deck with a proprietary structural aluminum monocoque design that will not deteriorate as wood does. Built to last!
HAT CHANNEL STRUCTURAL CROSS MEMBERS – In keeping with our 'Built To Last', we use our own design and extruded Hat Channel cross members as opposed to the other mnfrs who use much weaker C-channel. Hat Channel is far stronger and more stable than C-channel. Additionally, we space them closer together than other mnfrs thus providing superior chassis strength.
Quick Facts on why we designed Nantucket Pontoons
Pontoon boats are by far the most popular boat sold, and on the water today. Built for social outings of all kinds, pontoon boats are comfortable, stable, open, spacious couch seating, Bimini shaded, shallow draft, easy to drive, trailerable, affordable. However, the one attribute that escapes pontoon boats (until NANTUCKET PONTOON!) is, “built to last”.
Pontoon boats are popular because most boaters do not have a need to go out in heavy seas (pontoon boats are not for heavy seas), and love boating purely for the reason of being out on the water, enjoying mother nature with family, friends, or fishing.
Today’s ‘tin-log’ pontoon boats are built cheaply in assembly line factories and are not intended for saltwater use as the tin-logs and plywood decks corrode and deteriorate. As such, in saltwater, tin-log boats will likely need tin-log pontoon and deck replacing after just a few years’ use.
Did you know: Boat rental companies sell their pontoon boats after just one or two years of use! This is because factory-built pontoon boats simply aren’t built to last. Aluminum ‘log’ pontoons dent and puncture easily, and corrode relatively quickly; and the plywood decks rot after just a few years.
We felt that if we built our pontoons in the same way modern fiberglass hulls are built, the benefits over the aluminum welded log pontoons would be tremendous. And so the Nantucket Pontoon story begins…
MODERN FIBERGLASS PONTOONS. WOOD-FREE DESIGN & BUILD!
Plumb, wave-piercing bows slip efficiently and quietly through the water.
Our pontoons have 75% more volume than the standard 25" aluminum pontoon, giving a 'high and dry' ride -- 8" higher above the water than aluminum pontoon boats.
NP23 pontoon hull construction is modern fiberglass with bulkheads and Airex coring. NP23 is happy to ride low tide 'on the mud' day after day. Her high-volume hulls ride high above the water, keeping you stable and dry when the wind picks up and delivers wind chop.
NP hull shape and buoyancy result in super shallow draft -- amazing for getting into shallow areas for beach visits. In the event of an overnight adventure (island camping}, will rest comfortably on hard sand awaiting the next tide to come in. The wide-set outer chines of each NP pontoon result in 36% more stable platform than a tin-log pontoon boat of the same width.
